A Recommended Kenting Restaurant – Taiwanese cuisine Zeng's Little House restaurant

Zeng Jia Xiao Zhan Exterior

When international guests ask us for "authentic local food" recommendations, Zeng Jia Xiao Zhan (曾家小棧) is always in our top three. Unlike the tourist snacks found on Kenting Street, this place serves authentic Taiwanese stir-fry with incredible flavor.

This isn't just a place we recommend to guests; it's a restaurant where Gavin and the Wandering Walls team go ourselves when we crave a hearty meal. The quality is consistent, and the average cost is around NT$400–800 per person, offering excellent value for money.

Location

Located north of Hengchun Airport on the side of the Pingtung-E'luanbi Highway. It is about a 15-minute drive from Wandering Walls and 25–30 minutes from Kenting Main Street. Look for the large signboard.

Spacious Parking Lot

Parking & Atmosphere

Drivers need not worry—there is a large, private parking lot right next to the restaurant. The interior is spacious and bright, accommodating over a dozen tables, making it perfect for families or groups of friends.

Dining Tips

It gets very busy! We strongly recommend making a reservation, especially on weekends/holidays. Please note a unique rule here: they generally do not accept add-on orders once you've started eating. We suggest ordering everything at once (Rule of thumb: 3 dishes for 2 people, 4-5 dishes for 3 people). Service is incredibly fast—dishes usually start arriving within 5 minutes of ordering.

Wandering Walls Favorites

Most dishes here are excellent, but there are a few "soul food" items we order every single time:

  1. Dongpo Pork (Braised Pork Belly):
A crowd favorite! The lean meat is tender, and the fatty parts are stewed until they are rich in collagen but not greasy. Served with slightly sour bamboo shoots to balance the richness. This dish is a "rice killer" (appetizing).
  2. Signature Crispy Chicken (Limited):
Gavin’s top pick. The skin is roasted until it's paper-thin and crunchy—a texture you rarely find elsewhere. Note: This is a limited item, so we suggest reserving a portion when you book your table.
  3. Mouth-watering Chicken (Spicy Cold Chicken):
For those who like spice. Chilled chicken topped with a sauce that is sour, spicy, and savory, garnished with peanuts and Sichuan peppercorns. Very refreshing.
  4. Fern Salad with Sesame Dressing:
A classic local vegetable dish. The "bird's-nest fern" is crisp and pairs perfectly with the creamy sesame sauce.
  5. Winter Melon Lemon Drink:
Grab this from the fridge. The perfect balance of sweet and sour to cleanse the palate.

The Verdict

Zeng Jia Xiao Zhan allows you to enjoy a satisfying, full meal without breaking the bank. The dishes are incredibly appetizing, often leading you to eat more rice than you planned! For international travelers wanting to taste "Real Taiwan" or anyone looking for a hearty meal, this is one of our top recommendations.
